Buy a business.
Run it well.

I’m Drew Hyman. I help buyers evaluate acquisitions and owners improve the businesses they run—through financial leadership, strategy analysis, and hands-on AI implementation. I’m especially interested in long-term engagements with a path to becoming a part-owner.

AI & THE OPERATING BUSINESS

Why I expect the gap
between operators to widen.

Start with a strategy analysis

In businesses with roughly $7M–$40M in annual revenue—particularly those built and run by families—I’m seeing substantial, often surprisingly accessible opportunities to improve how they operate.

AI changes both sides of that equation: it can help find those opportunities faster, and make improvements practical that once took far more time, money, or specialist capacity. The potential reaches across the business, from winning work and serving customers to how teams coordinate and management makes decisions.

I believe the performance gap between businesses that put this to work and those that don’t will widen dramatically. The opportunity is to improve the economics of the whole business: more capacity, lower costs, better service, and new ways to grow.

TRANSACTION ADVISORY

Transaction advisory engagement in progress.

Client and transaction details to follow.

WHY STAY INVOLVED

The work should
survive the closing.

A fee tied to closing rewards getting the transaction done. On its own, it doesn’t connect an advisor to how the business performs afterwards.

If the engagement ends at close, a buyer can inherit the spreadsheet while losing access to the assumptions and judgment behind it.

I want to carry that work forward. The underwriting becomes the operating model. The model informs cash planning, reporting, and management decisions. AI implementation then helps change how the work gets done—with the financial plan guiding what to improve and how to measure it.

SERVICES

Ways to work together.

Start with a broad strategy analysis or a specific need. The work can develop into ongoing financial leadership and implementation.

Strategy analysis

A view of the whole business.

For an existing business or a recent acquisition: step back and assess how it makes money, serves customers, and gets work done. I combine financial analysis, conversations with the team, and AI tools to identify opportunities and decide where to start.

  • Review strategy, financial performance, operations, and systems
  • Identify avoidable costs, missed revenue, and work that can be simplified
  • Prioritize improvements by potential impact, speed, cost, and effort
  • Build an action plan, starting with the most valuable near-term fixes

Buy-side advisory

For a business you’re considering buying: build and pressure-test the acquisition model, financing cases, and assumptions the operating plan will depend on.

  • Acquisition analysis and LBO modeling
  • Investment committee materials and decision support
  • Lender models and financing scenarios
  • A plan to carry the underwriting into operations

Fractional CFO

For a business you own or have just acquired: turn plans into cash forecasts, reporting, and decisions. Where I’ve worked on the acquisition, the underwriting carries directly into the operating model.

  • Operating models, budgets, and cash planning
  • Actual performance against the operating plan
  • Management reporting and decision support
  • Lender and investor reporting

AI implementation & systems

For an opportunity you’re ready to act on: redesign the workflow, connect the data, build and test the tools, and help the team adopt them. We track whether the changes are useful in practice.

  • Workflow redesign and hands-on implementation
  • AI-enabled CRM and customer follow-up
  • AI-assisted reporting and document workflows
  • Connected data, CEO dashboards, and process automation
  • Testing, team adoption, and measurement of time saved and business impact

Financial models
& business workflows.

Through third-party evaluation providers, I contribute to frontier AI evaluations for leading AI labs, covering financial modeling and how well AI agents perform real-world business tasks. Modeling work spans leveraged buyouts, roll-ups, operating businesses, and real estate acquisitions and development.

LONG-TERM ALIGNMENT

A long-term role.
An ownership stake.

My goal is to become a part-owner in businesses where I can contribute through ongoing fractional CFO work and AI implementation. I’m open to different ownership arrangements that reflect the business, my role, and the contribution I can make.

Where there’s a fit, I’m open to discussing:

Personal co-investment
An investment of my own capital alongside the buyer.
Equity participation alongside an operating role
Exploring an ownership stake as part of ongoing fractional CFO or implementation work.

The structure and terms would depend on the business, my role, and what we agree together.

Where is your business today?

Tell me what you’re buying or running, where you are in the process, and what’s getting in the way. We can start by working out which improvements deserve attention first.
